10/07/2009 - International Research Workshop on Migrant Women and Internet

Last July 6 to 8 D-O-T organized a Research Workshop together with the University of Washington in the framework of the Research project "Immigrant Women, eSkills and Employability in Europe" co-funded by Microsoft Unlimited Potential programme. The workshop took place at Esplai Foundation premises, near to Barcelona's airport, and was attended by researchers from Holland, Italy, Hungary and Romania, plus the co-organizers Gabriel Rissola and Andrea Diaz (D-O-T, Barcelona/Spain) and Maria Garrido (University of Washington, Seattle/USA).

The main objective of this study is to understand the contribution of e-Skills to improve the employment opportunities for immigrant women in the European Union and the role of NGOs in this process. With this objective in mind, the research is based in four building blocks or paths that can contribute or impede the experiences of immigrant women in the labor market: 1) Autonomy or Independence; 2) Social inclusion; 3) Opportunities for e-Skills and employability training; and 4) Cultural inclusion.

The workshop in Barcelona was an opportunity for all the researchers involved in the study to discuss main findings (in-country and cross-country) from the survey results as well as from the interviews conducted during the field research.

16/06/2008 - European eInclusion event on Digital Literay

Barcelona Spain, June 16th 2008. Extract taken from Mr. Joe Cullen (event's chairman) final report:

"This e-practice workshop took place against a background of intensified effort by European institutions and member states to address issues around digital literacy and e-competences... This workshop therefore provided a timely opportunity to bring together policy-makers, experts and practitioners in the field of digital literacy in order to explore key issues and problems, share information and experiences and contribute to ongoing intellectual, policy and practice agendas. Three themes of particular relevance to digital literacy were selected to provide a platform for discussion: Content and delivery [session moderated by Gabriel Rissola, Director at D-O-T]..., Usability and accessibility..., Motivation and sustainability..."

12/05/2008 - The prestigious site ePractice.eu recommends one of our cases
ePractice.eu, the prestigious site that the European Community launched in 2007 as meeting point for European initiatives in the fields of e-Inclusion, e-Health and e-Government, has awarded last 9 May with its “Editor's Choice” the case “Public Internet Centres and Adult Education” submitted by PIC project’s coordinator and D-O-T Director, Mr. Gabriel Rissola.

This choice demonstrates the interest of the European Commission in the excellent paper that the telecentres carry out in Europe facing the digital and social inclusion of underprivileged groups.
